The Latest

I know it has been such a long time since I have posted.  I want to say life stepped in but it is more than that.

There are times that I am working so hard on something new for Elizabeth that I want to have it be a success for her before I share it with you.  Then life steps in and I don’t share or post.  Then there is something new….and you get the point.

But, I am going to change that philosophy and simply share.

I had done that before, sharing the good the bad and the day to day.  I think as she entered the college program the challenges that she has risen to are wonderful but they have taken work on all of our parts.

They have actually at times taken A LOT of work.

So suffice it to say that she, like us all, are works in progress.  And I want to continue to share these with you.

In a true fashion because maybe what we are doing now will be the thing others want/need to know about.  And that reason is one of the four I have for doing my books, lectures and blogs.

The other reasons are to honor all of Elizabeth’s hard work in life, to raise awareness for her disorders and to let parents/caregivers know that they can make a difference in their child’s life.

So on we go.

Talk to you very soon

A Gift of Elizabeth

So I met this older lady this week. She was near me in a crowded coffee shop and looking around and around like she was either confused or lost.

I watched her do this several times and I looked at her eyes as she twisted around and I could see a bit of fear

I felt badly for her, so I asked her if she needed anything.  She did tell me she was waiting for her husband to come in. Continue reading

Be There For Each Other

I was fixing Elizabeth’s hair this morning and may I add that her hair takes a village to do, as it is so curly and PUFFY! I am working on her doing her own hair well but it is a dyspraxic nightmare. I can remember trying to teach her how to put the hair gel on her hair. I told her to put some on her hand, rub her hands together and then put it ALL over her hair. She ended up with the gel on the top of her head only and in a blob as well. So suffice it to say, it is a work in progress! So anyway, I was doing her hair and then she went off to wash her face before her make up goes on. I was thinking of all the little behind the scene things I do for Elizabeth each day. Whether it making sure her clothes matched when she was younger to double checking for spots on her shirts to now encouraging her to remind me to touch up her nail polish when it chips. These are all little things but to me such important things. I have always known that Elizabeth wants to have matching clothes ( see my blog at www.talktools.com ), clean tops, fresh nails and so so many more things but simply cannot complete the tasks by herself. So we help her have what she wants. As she has grown and achieved, more detailed, skilled tasks greeted her. So we keep attempting new things and keep working. But in the meantime, it falls to us to help her with things she cannot yet do well. Continue reading
